Thirty-Six

Elisabete was born and raised in Castelo de Paiva, where the incident occured.

“Hintze Ribeiro Bridge was opened in 1887 and – caused by structure erosion – fell on March 4, 2001. At the time of collapse, three vehicles and a full bus were crossing the bridge. Fifty-nine people died. Thirty-six bodies never appeared.

The absence of thirty-six bodies are represented by symbolic landscape, of space which carries memories. Silently, they speak about what remains empty, an undiscovered path.”
